Research Areas
My current research interests focus on regional cooperation, with particular emphasis on the Three Seas Initiative (3SI). I examine contemporary forms of multilateral diplomacy and the processes of foreign policy-making.
A separate strand of my research focuses on the experiences of Poles from the so-called Wartheland who were deported to forced labor in German-occupied France during the Second World War. I analyze this issue from the perspective of the local community of the Pajęczno area who were deported in 1943.
Academic Career
I am a Professor at the Institute of Political Studies of the Polish Academy of Sciences (ISP PAN). I have been affiliated with the Institute since 1999.
Between 2022 and 2025, I led the Three Seas Initiative Research Centre at ISP PAN. Although the project has formally concluded, many of its outcomes have a lasting character and remain publicly available. Among these is the Three Seas Initiative website (trojmorze.isppan.waw.pl / 3si.politic.edu.pl), which I continue to update.
In January 2023, I was elected by the Scientific Council of ISP PAN to serve on the Council's Ethics Committee and have served as Chair of the Ethics Committee of the Scientific Council of the ISP PAN since May 2024.
From July 2021 to December 2022, I headed the Department of Central and Eastern Europe and Post-Soviet Studies at the Institute of Political Studies.
Between 2012 and 2018, I also lectured at Lazarski University. In 2018, I received the Rector’s Award for achievements in teaching in the 2017/2018 academic year.
In April 2012, I was awarded the degree of Habilitated Doctor and appointed Professor.
In 2004–2005, I was awarded the Foundation for Polish Science Scholarship for Young Researchers.
In 2003, I received the Prime Minister’s Award for my doctoral dissertation.
In December 2002, I received my PhD in Political Science.
I hold two Master’s degrees: in International Relations from the University of Warsaw and in European Studies from a joint programme of the Warsaw School of Economics (SGH) and the Institut d’Études Politiques de Paris (Sciences Po), completed with a TEMPUS scholarship.
